所有英國高等教育學校都要求申請者需通過英語能力測驗，在台灣有兩種主要的英語測驗， IELTS或是TOEFL。 每所學校的入學標準會因科系不同而有所變動，例如：倫敦大學的法律碩士需要IELTS 7.5分，但一般的大學科目只需要IELTS 6.0。 整體而言，以不分科系的標準來看，通常需要IELTS 6.0~6.5 或 TOEFL iBT 80-90 分的程度。 近年來，大學的入學門檻有愈來愈嚴格的趨勢，學校除了總分之外，也要求 IELTS 各項的分數不得低於 6.0；或是TOEFL iBT的寫作部分要達到 20-24分。

All UK higher education institutions require evidence of English Language ability. The main tests of English language ability available in Taiwan are IELTS and TOEFL. The required scores on these tests vary depending on the institution and the course to which you have applied. For example the LLM at the University of London requires an IELTS score of 7.5 whereas a score of 6.0 will be acceptable for an undergraduate course. Generally speaking you will need IELTS 6.0 – 6.5 or TOEFL 80 – 90 on the iBT test for most courses. Some institutions have become much more selective in recent years and offers often state that no band should be less than 6.0.in the IELTS test. In the TOEFL iBT test they may typically ask for a writing score in the range of 20 - 24.

IELTS 測驗全方位的英語運用技巧，學生在一般的學習或是英語訓練時都會接觸到。 所有考生接受同樣的聽力測驗和對話測驗，但因身分不同 (學生或移民等等)，閱讀及寫作測驗必須在學術和一般測驗中擇一。 如要申請高等教育，則要選學術測驗。 IELTS 測驗分為聽、說、讀、寫四項，每項分數最低0分，最高9分，四項的平均為總分。

在台灣可透過英國貿易文化辦事處或是澳洲教育協會來進行 英語能力測驗。 學生們可經由捷先的協助報名參加測驗。若是對測驗的分數不滿意，根據新的IELTS考試規定，您可以隨時報名重考。

IELTS tests the complete range of English language skills which will commonly be encountered by students when studying or training in the medium of English. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is an option of either Academic or General Training Reading and Writing Modules. You must choose the Academic module if you are planning to undertake higher education study. Your results will be scored on a scale from 0 to 9. You will receive a separate score for each band, reading, listening, writing and speaking. The mean of these scores is taken as your overall band.

The test is administered in Taiwan by both the British Council and the IDP Education Australia. GetSet is able to help you register for the test. You are allowed to retake the test whenever and as often as you like if you are not satisfied with your score.

TOEFL 測驗對象為非英語系國家的學生，最主要是測驗學生對於美式學術英文用語的使用與了解程度。 然而，英國學校雖偏好 IELTS 成績 但也接受TOEFL 測驗結果。目前這項考試也有提供網路化測驗(iBT)每個月在各地的考試中心至少會舉辦一次考試，考生最好提早一個月前報名考試，並請隨時上網站查閱當月實際開放報名之測驗地點及最新訊息，所有訊息以官方網站最新公告為準 。TOEFL iBT 電腦測驗， 包含閱讀、聽力、文法結構、寫作和口試等項目。 若對分數不滿意者， 一個月後可以報名重考。

TOEFL measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings. However it is accepted by most institutions of higher education in the UK although IELTS is preferred. The test is offered via the internet (Internet based test or IBT) in Taiwan once a month. Registration for the test needs to be completed at least one month before the intended date for taking the test. Testing is carried out in various venues in all the major cities in Taiwan.You will be tested on reading listening and structure / writing (your essay rating is based on the writing element of this band.) You are allowed to retake after one month if you are not satisfied with your score.
